Rick's stuff is great. I have a few of his tools rests. I use the flat tops with my carbide tools. Keeps the tools firmly grounded.

Just got my second one last week, a 8 inch. Rick is a great vendor to deal with, very fast service, outstanding quality with his tools ,both material and spot on machining .

I use one daily. It helps of you use a carbide slanted to gently sand the round top with 400 grit to keep things smooth. I have angled tools and even the Magic skew, but I still angle my cuts when it helps.
Love his stuff, all of it.
