Richmond Woodcraft
6:30 –
Thursday May 10, 2018
Agenda:
1) Show off your pens – bring in your latest to share
2) 3D Printed molds for unique designs with some examples
3) The highlight of the evening will be a demonstration of Jim Zorn's automated pen wizard. Jim took the principles of the Beall Pen Wizard and attached stepper motors to electronically control the rotation and horizontal movement. It's a low cost 2 axis CNC for making pen blanks opening the possibilities of numerous designs. The control system is based on an Arduino mini computer (<$10) loaded with free GRBL software and a free Universal GCode sender. Jim will discuss the build and I will go over the electronics and coding in whatever depth those wanting to stay can tolerate. Spirals, Honeycombs, Celtic Knots, facets, and the currently popular Gisi style designs are easily made with ultimate precision.
See you there,
Bruce
