"Nelsonite is a mixture of mineral spirits with very high concentration and percentages of Naphtha (that's the smell that makes you sick) as well as other resins and oils. Our Cue Components Resolute™ product contains mineral spirits, a very small amount of Naphtha (hardly any smell unless you stick your nose into it) as well as other resins. The bottom line is that the Naphtha is extremely toxic and dangerous. Since Cue Components Resolute™ contains less of the Naphtha, it is much less toxic and the strong toxic odor produced by Nelsonite is not apparent with our Resolute™. The results and benefits are the same while being safer and much less expensive."

Will any one comment that has used this product?

Thank you,

I have used Resolute from Joe at Cue Components. I've never used it for pens. A friend of mine has a Resolute dipping contraption that i've used do dip shafts and forearms for pool cues in. For the price I think you'd be crazy to use this for pens. Resolute is mainly used after every pass on a shaft to help it not warp. With Resolute you don't have to use any kind of vacuum or pressure when using it. For pens you could easily and economically use Curtis' Cactus Stabilization Machine. Just my .02

[FONT=arial, helvetica]I think you are wrong on your pricing. Cactus juice is about 4X the price that Resolute is (from my quick look *I might be wrong*). I haven't used either but I have been thinking about doing some stabilizing. My question would be which one works better and which one is less hazardous.

Curtis,

Thank you for explaining the product, the Cactus Juice exactly makes the wood harder.

How is the larger vacuum tanks coming along in the build progress?
Cost?

First, you need to define stabilizing as you intend to use it. If you are looking to just help keep the wood from moving with moisture changes, the Resolute will work just fine. If, however, you define stabilizing as hardening soft wood wood and keeping it stable, then Resolute WILL NOT do what you want it to do. It is an apples and oranges comparison. One simply seals the wood and the other seals the wood, makes it harder, and adds weight and density to the wood.
