I attend a Farmer's Market each Saturday in my home village with the intent of showing my pens, and with the hopes that someone will remember me when it comes time to purchase that special gift.

A moneyed gentleman approached my booth today and would only consider my high-end pens, i.e. $85 -- $100.
He left me with the promise to return to my home this week looking for a pen & pencil set to purchase.

I am only aware of 2 pen/pencil set in kits: Father Sing's from CS USA and the Perfect Fit pen which can be converted to a pencil that I purchase from penblanks.ca in Canada.

Can someone recommend a rather high-end pen/pencil set that I can show this gentleman. As well, he may be in the mood for a fountain pen which I have no knowledge of the components that are available.

As far as my turning and finishing ability goes, his comment was that it is exquisite. I'm hoping to turn my next meeting with him into the first of many good commissions, but I require the assistance and help of some of the more experienced turners on this site.

I am on bended knee!

Hello everyone; My post has had 56 hits to date and only 1 reply.

Does this mean there are no other pen/pencil kits available other than the 2 I mention, and the 1 Hans points out?

There are more but not `high end`, I like the Long Click pen and pencil that CSUSA sells but may not be what he wants same as the 7mm European set, Cigar set etc...

Heck ---when I read the Jr Gent post-----that would of been my answer also.
I don't carry them in stock because of the cost but I sure to sell them on custom orders.
I only make a couple per year.

I've made the cigar pen and pencil set and they are fairly sturdy. The other pencil kits are low end and poorly made. There is not a big requirement for pencil sets and I have discontinued making them. However, I have started to make the pentil pencils and they are a great mechanism with few breakdowns. Darrell

Gary & Hans: Could the Jr. Gent be converted to RB or FP? And where would I order from?

Hi Guys; I've done a little browsing through CS USA. Looks like they can help me out. Although if you know of another dealer, I'm open to suggestions.

In my mind, "high end" is in the eye of the beholder. My son carries a carbon fiber pen and pencil (0.5mm) I made from Sierra kits shown in the attached.

Pen and Pencil

I'm not a big fan of PSI's kitsm but the Power Pen and pencil are very nice kits. My son has been using both for over a year with no issues.

The Jr. Does come as a Rollerball or Fountain BUT, it does not interchange with the Ball Point and pencil. Those are 2 different sets of bushings. Hope that helps. As far as where to find them in Canada... Don't know but maybe KJP?

I've done about a dozen Polaris Pen and Pencil kits, and I've yet to be able to keep a set for myself. People really seem to love them around here in the Northwest, and generally the most popular are the really nice acrylic blanks, though I personally love doing them in dark woods that I can finish to an almost acrylic shine.

Mack the mechanism for the perfect fit will also work for the El grand ballpoint and with a little mod. to the mechanism I think you could get it to work on the 8mm euro. Other than the slim and the others mentioned that's about it that I know of.

A customer who just got an El Grande from me now wants a matching pencil. Sigh. I told her id be glad to make her one from matching resin, but the hardware would be chrome and the shape wouldn't match at all because the only pencil I'll do is a Pentel based kit. She's cool with it. I jiust don't like the mechanisms out there.
