This is my first post on the site and my first attempt at this pen. I followed the instructions written by Bill Bettag from the library. I used Thuya Burl and unstabilized buckeye Burl (this was very hard to find). I also went with the Magnetized Vertex Rollerball Pen. It was a fun pen to make and I will be making more. Enjoy!

Thank you. I have not found a cigar shop yet with disguarded bands. I go back and forth on the band. I think I will do some with and some without. Some people take off the band when they smoke their cigar so it makes sense without it.

True but I just thought I'd give you a hard time. The shops around here normally have a vase or large jar to put the labels in. The hard part is finding one that's not saving them for a particular individual or beating all the others to the punch to get the "Good Ones". I've also noticed on some of the more expensive bands some are burnt at the bottom. I think maybe if some one buys an expensive cigar they leave the label on as long as they can so people will know what they're smoking. I'm not a smoker but I like the labels and pens.

Very nice !! . Thuya burl is always a winner.

Would be nice to see a pic showing the full length with the cap on.

Also I am curious about the recess in the writing end of the body which accommodates the small metal protrusion visible on the cap.

Thanks for the compliments and the band offers. I will let you know if I cannot find bands locally soon.

I took a picture of the pen recess for the lid. The pen has a ring that the cap fits around so something has to stick out in order for the pen to come together correctly.

I took a piece of "firewood" and turned a quick ashtray and glued down some of the buckeye burl shavings in the bottom. And I added a band that I found.
