But not all the way….

Yes, I have read all the tutorials, some several times. Thanks to those of you that spend the time to produce them. I have also started watching the youtube videos, including those by grub32.

First of all, I do not want to get involved with a pressure pot, vacuum, or the HF electronic jewelry cleaner. I think I can at least work around the cleaner with a pot of hot water and the brass tumbler on my reloading bench.

Molds – I was at BORG today and took a look at the GE silicone caulk. Is this the acetic acid cure that is normally used to make your own mold?

Resin – It seems like most of you use Alumilite, Silmar 41 or Castin Clear. Right now, I am undecided on which one to go with. I have a couple of questions that may sound stupid but here goes.

Can you do 2 casts with any of the above resins? That is, cast one blank, turn down, add a decal, and then cast over it. This was in a post a few days ago but no mention of the resin being used.

Also, I have some wood blanks that will probably split if I try to turn them. I want to break them apart, put in tinted resin, and let it cure and then turn them. Other than the split, the wood is fine. What resin would work best? Or would this require the use of a pressure pot.

Colors – Do you need to use the resin mfg colors?
Right now, I am leaning toward Silmar but am not that wild about the tint of their colors. Any other sugestions?

Thanks for your help.

Landon

Most of your questions were answered by Landon, but something peaked my curiosity while reading your post - what Silmar 41 colors? I buy it by the gallon and it is clear and you use dyes or pearl Ex or power coating powders or all of the above.

I have tried to patch the holes in wood before using both Silmar and Alumlite, limited success, no pressure pot - hopefully it works out better for you.
