I put carter guides on my band saw, they work great. took the top guide off and put the stablilizer on that works great. Now I can't remember where I put the top guide. Now 3 days of cleaning and looking and still can't find it. I'll most likely find it after I get a replacement.

That stinks, but glad to learn I'm not the only one who does stuff like that. Searched for my calipers for about half an hour the other day only to find out I had put them back in the case.

I have that same problem in my shop. I lost my calipers only to find them in the back pocket of my smock!

Hey guys THANK you I thought I was the only one that misplaced my calipers, My Brown and Sharpe's stay in my Machinist box, but my el cheapos that I use on pens and handle tennons wind up hiding in the strangest places.

I devised a metal loop to hang my calipers on the side of my little lathe and try - and the operative word here is TRY - to always put them back when I use them... they get lots of use around the shop though and I do find them in strange places too.

Come on guys! You just have to put them in that safe place. I think I have dozens of things stored in a few safe places. Of course the only problem is that I have absolutely no idea where any of the safe places are! I once had a request for a specific pen and only had one kit left so I made sure to put it somewhere it would be safe and that I could find it. That was about ten years ago and as far as I know that kit is still safe because I had to order another kit to make the pen.

OMG this is a funny thread. All I can say is that's what you guys get for putting things away :) I never put anything away and can find whatever it is I'm looking for almost instantly. That system has the added advantage of keeping my wife out of the shop. LOL

I had the same thing happen to my upper guides. The day I got my replacements I found them stuck up by the hinge on the top cover.

Other than LMAO I have no clue.

I did that once and it was so very frustrating I decided I would never do it again. I put a couple of rare-earth magnets inside the lower door of my saw down in the bottom corner away from the wheel and my carter lives there. In the other corner is the tools needed to adjust the rollers when I change blades.
