this is how my day has just begun....I ordered a NOVA DVR XP and got it about two months ago. this past weekend, it stopped working, so i wait till today to call NOVA Tech support. so I called and spoke to a guy name tim. He explained to me that I need to take apart the motherboard and send it to him. But not receive anything in return. so I will be without a lathe for about 2 weeks or even longer. To me, I find that unacceptable, one thing i have learned about electronics is that you dont repair, you replace. so, if they do repair the motherboard and it happens again, then I run into the same problem over again. i am just venting that the fact there is only one person you can talk to about getting your lathe fixed and i find that mind boggling. but that is just me....thanks

Sad commentary of way things are going. When I ran the Photo Lab, the Noritsu Processor went down and we waited weeks for another board. It came cracked... $2.00 packaging for a $30,000.00 board... All the way from Japan? Haven't they seen cargo handlers in action?

Hope yours is resolved quickly and easily.

Sorry to hear of your lament, Keven! Not to add fuel to the fire, but this makes me thankful I bought Mustard.;)

Aren't you glad I twisted your arms? ;):D LOL

Though I don't have mine now...I am still a PM proponent. [^]

Just a little info---Tim (if it's the same Tim)is the service rep for the whole USA.
If you want to talk to him-----call early----like 10 minutes after he opens. You really want to keep in touch with him.
The guy is really very nice----he helped us out on a Nova Chuck.
To me this is one of those deals where getting service is a real big deal.
That's why I bought Mustard.

I've been thinking about which larger lathe to get. This was one in consideration. No longer. That's just unsat.

Yeah, I'm with you, Mark. My local Woodcraft sells them and I had pretty much decided that this wood be the one I stepped up to. But I find this kind of warranty service unacceptable. I'd be willing to FedEx the bad part to Teknatool if they would FedEx a good part back to me. But, this seems to be inordinately poor service.

they told me that they didnt have any Motherboards available, which is mind boggling to me, I would love to continue dealing with CSUSA on this matter, since they are good at keeping their customers. all i want is something to replace my motherboard with, not just sending them something and waiting on something in return. I think they make a great product, but this is an area they need to work on!!!!!!

The headstock on my Griz was bad out of the box. Solution was they sent me a new headstock and then I mailed the old one back to them using their crate.

Glad I went Green.

I have a Nova DVR and am extremely pleased with it. I am glad I went gray!:)

I would insist that whomever you bought it from take care of your problem right away unless it has been quite a while. Speaking of Tim Geist...he is top notch in my book. I bought my DVR when they had just switched to the XP. It was a floor model at Woodcraft and someone had broken the spindle lock and messed up the headstock threads a little. I knew this and bought it anyway. I contacted Tim to see if I could buy a replacement spindle part and if he has any suggestions on the thread problem. He shipped me a new spindle lock and offered to send me his 1 1/4" die to run over the threads and clean it up all at no charge. I took him up on the spindle lock but ended up buying my own die. I mentioned the problem with the threads to my local Woodcraft and the fact I had to buy a die and they GAVE me a bed extension for my trouble.

Both the spindle lock and thread problem were related and caused by floor abuse, not anything to do with the lathe. I am 100% happy with the lathe and would buy another one just like it if I was in the market. One question...did you have your lathe on a surge supressor? If not, that could be the culprit.

Teknatool seem to be having a few QC type problems since they moved manufacturing to China, not sure about the lathes though.

I had a problem with some Nova Pin Jaws, terrible quality with large burrs on them.

I complained about this on our Australian WW forum after I had contacted Teknatool via their website and I didn't get an answer.

Anyway I persevered and eventually got the pin jaws replaced after having been contacted by this gentleman

Try to send an email to him and point him to this thread, I'm sure Teknatool don't want this sort of bad publicity.

I agree with Curtis.

I bought mine brand new and never looked back. Only thing I ever noticed was that she did not want to work properly when plugged into a GFI circuit. I ran her a dedicated feed at 15 amps and have not had a single problem in 3 plus years. I would buy one again if in the market.

Can you clarify what "about" 2 months ago is? I would suggest you bring it right back to where you got it and let them fix it. If you bought it from a Woodcraft store then you have 90 days no questions asked.

i bought my lathe at the beginning of JAN, and i checked every single outlet yesterday and everyone put out 115 volts. so I know that the lathe is causing the problem. so hopefully the new headstock wont give me any grief.

I think the lathe is superb, My work feels better cause I am turning on something that is more solid. but it seems that they dont have the neccessary equipment for replacement when you need it. I called Teknetool and talked to a technician in NZ. He told me that it can be a number of things that cause "hardware fault" on my lathe and the culprit is an over sensitive sensor. To fix the problem is to have the resistor removed that is attached to the sensor.
