Waaay before his time... A shame, but I'm sure it could be said that his crisis was the inspiration for many of his most notable contributions.

I'm not able to listen to the whole lecture at the moment, but here's a few quotes from him (via Wikipedia) from the lecture that I think we oughta heed. This is good stuff coming from someone who should know.

"...when you see yourself doing something badly and nobody's bothering you to tell you anymore, that's a very bad place to be. Your critics are the ones telling you they still love you and care." — from The Last Lecture

"Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." — from The Last Lecture

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people!" — from The Last Lecture

He even got pretty spiritual with it! I guess you call this techno-theology...?

"We're not going to talk about spirituality and religion. Although I will tell you that I have experienced a deathbed conversion. I just bought a Macintosh." — from The Last Lecture

I've been considering that conversion myself.

I've seen the lecture several times and my wife bought me the book/audiobook for Father's Day. We listened to it twice on a recent road trip and I cried like a baby both times.

I highly recommend the audiobook, it's available via itunes for just $8.95.

I also recently finished listening to Tim Russert's "Big Russ & Me" and "Wisdom of our Fathers". 2 more great books I highly recommend by someone who passed way before his time.

RIP Randy

Jason

The mans drive and motivation of over coming crisis hopefully will spread more with his passing. I don't know if I would be able to face a situation like his and not wuss out, he was a remarkable man.
