I have a vacuum pump connected to my lathe via barbed fittings, but i want to be able to use some kind of quick disconnect and connect it to a vacuum chamber. I read that compressor disconnects are not suitable for vacuum use.

So what do you use to hookup and disconnect a vacuum chamber??

Any suggestions appreciated.

My lathe came with 3/8 compressor fittings installed for vacuum use. For the 15-23 inches mercury vacuum I use on the lathe, seems to function just fine.

I use a quick connect fitting between my vacuum chamber and vacuum pump. Did not know it was said to not use them on vac fittings. Mine work perfectly, no problems whatsoever.

I use quick fittings made for compressed air lines but connect them in the opposite direction. That is, the fitting that normally connects to the compressor end connects to the vacuum chamber end instead.

I hope that helps,
Eric

Air compressor fitting turned backwards as Eric mentions is what I use and sell with my vac chambers. I have a digital micron vacuum gauge (more accurate than a dial gauge) for testing and have not seen any drawbacks to using them
