David,
Acetal DOES have a use in pen turning, but not as a blank. Delrin is a brand name for acetal, and is used, quite often, for bushings. I suppose you could turn a pen from it, but it would be a rather boring pen. Plus you would probably have problems gluing the tube into it. Just my two penny's worth...

Its actually a very good material for making protoypes and even kitless pens. Machines and threads as good or better than any material I've worked with. Doesn't adhere well with glue, but why use a tube when you don't have to.

Here are a couple I made using acetal (Delrin).
The first one is COMPLETELY kitless and all the black parts are acetal.
The second one uses a tube, transmission and a clip but is still considered kitless. On it the nib and finial are acetal.

Acetal/Delrin has loads of uses as structural pieces to loads of stuff. I use it in both pens and pipes - however I never use it for pieces that I want to get shiny. It can take a shine, sort of, but it scratches easily, and the shine never lasts. It's also very soft and flexible, making it good for connectors, mortises, tenons, and other components that will be under stress.
