I am new to casting and stabilizing and I'm planning on casting wool scraps and also dried hops (I'm also a home brewer) in alumilite. I know alumilite has a fast curing time and I wouldn't think it would be enough time to penetrate the wool or hops which would give me different textures after I turn it. what do you think is the best way of going about this? Should I stabilize the wool and hops first? or should I just go straight for the alumilite. I know PR has a long curing time and would have time to penetrate but I prefer alumilite because of how it turns. how would you do it? Thanks in advance.

The Alumilite water clear has a 15 minute time for casting, so that is good! Better than before :):). Can you stir a bit before it sets? (Once you practice, you will have time to play!) Just a thought. :)

Others may be more helpful...

Oh... Remember...Alumilite does not play well with moisture !!! Your wool/hops need to be "bone dry."

Thanks Mark. I didn't think about using water clear...I did know about moisture and alumilite. I planned on giving them a little time in the dehydrator just before I use them, the hops are generally very dry out of the package but a little time in the dehydrator couldn't hurt

I do have a small pressure vessel that I can use for pen blanks. So you are saying pressure should be enough to force it's way into the wool?

I have watched his videos but didn't see anything absorbent like wool and didn't know how that would react
