Can anyone tell me where to buy the materials I need to start casting
my own acrylic or polyester pen pen blanks?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PS Did go to Hobby Lobby but did not find what I think I needed.

Thanks

Not trying to be short here but if you do a little search in the Casting and Stabilization forum, you will find a ton of information. Go under search and Advanced search and you can input which forums to search and what key words to search for.

Also check the library.

Here is a quick one that has most of what you are looking for....

Good luck!

you can usually pick up castin' craft resin at Michael's as well as Pearl-ex powders and translucent dyes. You could start with that and see how you like it... There are many places online to get supplies as well, coastal scents is one that comes to mind for powders.

Us Composites for 1 gal or 5 gal resin Silmar 41 $50.00- $200.00
coastal scents for mica`s around $5.00 an OZ
Hobby Lobby for opaque colors (castin craft) around $5.00 a bottle.

To start and see if you like it...50% coupon at Michales...couple of powder coat colors from HF and a chunk of 1" PVC sprinkler pipe. Have a ball and see what happens!

Is it 1" or 3/4"?

I picked up 3/4" for regular blanks, 1" for cholla cactus, and 1/2" for slimlines.

I get 1" because I have a crappy drill press!

Drill Press?? You drill on a Drill Press?????????? You don't need no stinkin Drill Press!!!!! :monkey::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin: Just cuttin up, but if you can pop for a set of collets and drill on your lathe, I bet you will never drill for precision on a drill press again. They are accurate enough you can drill blanks from PTownSubbies "Segmenting Blank Mold" blanks. Correct me if I'm wrong Fred, but aren't they 1/2 inch?? (I'm stuck to my computer and can't get loose to go measure mine) Just cut them in two (tube length) 60 degree center drill, turn round between centers, then put in the collet chuck and drill away. Pearlex powders at Hobby Lobby or Mica from Coastal Scents in Fla and Silmar 41 from US Composites. You just as well go ahead and buy a gallon, cause you are GONNA like it. If not the casting, the challenge and freedom to see what patterns you can invent!!!:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
