I'm somewhat familiar with Hartville Tool etc. (they have a great website) but I've never been up there. I'm about 2 hours away but am intrigued that some here on IAP mentioned having a pen making meeting there. ( I also wanting to visit as their whole operation seems beyond amazing.)

It just doesn't appear from their website that they sell pen maker supplies. One place closer to me is Keim Lumber (Charm Ohio) and they do have pen kits etc.

Can someone advise about Hartville if they do sell pen stuff? Thx!

One other thing that amazes me about Hartville, is that, if you have a group they are willing to bus you in on THEIR dime. They apparently have 3 large, modern tour busses to come pick your group up. I've only heard of casinos :frown: doing that.

It's a must-see website for sure.

Don't know if they sell pen kit's, But they have a great club discount program. So before you purchase anything and you are a member of a turners clubs. Check to see if they are signed up.

All it takes is a little paper work, 15% off anything they sell. is not bad. Just finished getting our group signed up.

I'll try to find out about Hartville selling pen supplies and report back.

Another place is Berea Hardwoods and certainly others online here from northern Ohio know of them. I seem to recall having seen them at various woodworking shows.

It may be possible to get a volume/business (tax-exempt type) deal through Keim Lumber. I really like the Keim folks and have gotten to know quite a few of them over the years.

Keim is smack dab in the middle of Ohio's Amish Country and I'm always thrilled to visit. When it comes to exotic woods, they have a tremendous variety and volume in stock. They'll ship and deliver locally as well. Just for kicks, check out their website and see their showroom virtual tour. Yeah man...!!!

If anyone drives to Charm (Keim), be sure to slow WAY down for buggies. For safety and out of respect.

Hartville does sell pen turning supplies, they have mostly Berea kits, but every time I visit I notice something new. They have a good selection of Lathes, tools, chucks and other turning stuff as well. FYI the prices are pretty good too.
The Northern Ohio IAP group meets there sometimes as well. Our next meeting will be up north in Elyria and it will be a cookout for the family.
Keim is great but they close at noon on Saturdays. Lots of hard to find blanks, I buy baseball bat blanks there.
Berea Hardwoods is a good place as well, they have kind of weird hours, but very friendly and you will learn more from the staff there in minutes than anywhere else in an hour.

So, now you all know where I shop.

One thing to be careful of is ,do not confuse "Hartville Tool' with "Hartville Hardware" they are separate entities. Hartville Tool offers the club discounts. Hartville Hardware does not. If there is something in the store that is turning related and not available online they will give a 10% discount only if you ask. Hartville Tool is online only and there is nothing to see or visit. It is a separate building located behind the store. You may pickup items if you call in advance. Hartville Hardware has some pen kits and blanks all "Berea Hardwoods" stuff. Hartville Tool does not sell pen kits or blanks. Hope this will help. Bob
