Hi all,
Do you have the drill chuck from AS? Is it OK? Should I look elsewhere?

I want to start turning closed enders. I want to do it without spending $150 on a chuck and then $18 to $20 on mandrels. I have just enough in my paypal account to buy a drill chuck and mandrel from AS. I also like the idea of supporting our folks. For instance, I just ordered some CA from WW.

Let me know what you all think. Unless someone knows of a way to get a quality chuck system for under $75 or so. Which I know is unlikely.

I bought one from harbor frieght and it has been good. 7.99 plus shipping although it took about three weeks to get it. I think about 12.00 with shipping if i remember rite

Do you have a Collet Chuck? Or a 4 Jaw chuck with pin jaws? That is what I use. We also have a drill chuck but I hit my knuckles and it hurt and was very ugly, needless to say I won't use it anymore.
Hope this helps.

$150 for a drill chuck????????[:0] I paid a lot less than that for my Beall collet chuck and 4 collets. I used my cheap HF drill chuck for the first 4-5 closed end pens I did and it worked fine. The only problem with it was that I had to use a rubber mallet to knock it into the headstock else it would come lose, but it did work. I prefer the Beall.

Dawn, I have no chucks of any kind.
Gerry, I need to look into the collet chuck more. I was referring to a jaw chuck when I wrote $150. Hadn't thought about a collet chuck. Still not really familiar with the collet design. Need to do some more research on them. Wish I could find a video of one in use.
