this last november, my oldest daughter and i took a class from kenny mayes from crawfordsville. we made a couple of great BOW pens thanks to kennys patience. i had turned before (some) but the daughter had not. kenny helped her through it and after all was said and done, we were both hooked. we had a fantastic day together and had a great time working with ken.
as soon as i got home, i started ordering the tools and equipment i would need to get us going. it started coming in but we ran into a problem.
i started to get more and more tired. to make a very long story shorter, i spent 9 days in bloomington hospital followed by 2 weeks at home followed by 2 back to back(same day) surgeries to first, replace a heart valve and part of an aorta, the second to repair the leak from the first one.
point is, that was a great day spent with my oldest. we learned a new passion and even though delayed, we are going forward as soon as the doc clears me. she is excited about turning and the business end, i'm excited about breathing normaly and turning (i heard the gasps of putting turning second).
the recovery period has given me a chance to meet a bunch of great people through all the threads. i have learned so much.
i want to thank those responsible for this great site, for kenny's help and patience, for all the helps and comments from the members here and for the great time my daughter had on that most memorable day.

Sounds like you had a truly great day with your daughter. I love turning with my girls, (14 and 16) there is nothing better than spending time with them. I hope you are feeling better and wish you a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about your health. Hope you continue to get better. Glad you enjoyed learning to turn pens. I know I had as much fun teaching everybody.Good students always help.
Now you need to show some of your handy work when you get a chance.

Barry,

It sounds like you and your daughter have a great relationship. It also sounds like you have your priorities in order. After losing half a lung to a carcinoid tumor, I understand how breathing can be an under appreciated skill!

Take your time, browse the library for more information and make sure you are logged on and participating in the Birthday Bash!!

Be sure and visit with us all at the LOADZA LOGGERS shindig at 4:00 PM Eastern. There is lots of fun and prizes to be had!!

Thats great, I wish I could get either of my kids daughter 20 and Son 27 interested but no such luck, my son used to help with our Jewelry business before he got his own life, wife and kids .
I do hope you have a speedy recovery and that you get to turning quickly, it's a wonderful stress reliever (sometimes)
