Made a couple jigs yesterday to see if this can be done easily and it can.
There is no hole plug showing in the outside bottom because there isn't one but it still requires a plugged hole on the inside.

My apologies for the poor finish . I did this whole thing this afternoon between gardening and outside work after cutting the rings and gluing them up within an hour yesterday and just used rattle can semi gloss lacquer on this one . Just a give away bowl . Wasn't going for shape or finish but just to put a foot on one like that for the first time.

I like it! The foot works well with the pattern of the wood.
It's just a give away bowl????? Hmmmmm?
Thanks for showing the ones you have made.
I gotta learn this technique.

Well Williams, anything that voids/doesn't show that hole on the base, is a great thing to me, that was the only negative I saw with the system so, if you find a easy way to get around it, that's excellent, I mentioned that, one day someone would come up with a solution, I'm not surprised it come from you, from the amount of time you spend working with it so, congrats...!

Cheers

Thanks for the comments.

I will be doing more like that in June but too many other things on the go for the rest of this month .

I made that one from a highly figured little board of cherry as can be seen by the lines in the grain . It was 4" wide and16" long to I cut it in half and book matched the grain to make it a 8" x 8" board to start with.. It ended up as 8" diameter and 4.5" tall .

What a difficult piece of wood to photograph. It had what is sometimes called chatoyance ? or luminance rays and just turning it an inch or so in the same light source showed a different effect.
Pictures sure don't do justice to that type of wood.
