I have heard of heating or cooking purpleheart to revitalze the color.
I have seen that this works, but my question is... how long will it keep the color purple. Some of the purpleheart I have done in the past should have been called,,let's see.....Brownheart!

I have a few purpleheart pens that were among the first things I made (about a year ago). They are still cose to the same color purple. I used a CA finish on them, and they aren't exposed to the sun TOO much, which may contribute to their colorfastness (assuming there is such a word).

I bought a piece of purpleheart from a woodstore in Tulsa. They advised using oxblood dye to keep the color so it wouldn't fade. Don't know if repeated treatments would be necessary or advised. They suggested Tandy leather as a source for the dye.

Remember this is from someone with very little experience, so.......

Wood that be a prevention or just dyeing the same color?

It will eventually turn an almost Walnut colored brown. If you want to set "color" and avoid the brown, expose it to muratic acid fumes. This will turn it a cranberry color, but it will remain colorfast.
