For those of you who do a great deal of casting, I need help in finding a coloring to cast a deep purple. I live in the land of Kansas State University, where purple rules. Eventually, I would like to do some shows and I figured it couldn't hurt to have some pens with purple incorporated in them. I would like to find a deep purple to match the purple K-State uses in their logos (see below) and something that a man wouldn't find too feminine. (Sorry for those of you in Oklahoma, Texas, and other Big 12 states who don't like the sight of a Wildcat!)

I usually use Coastal Scent's Micas, but haven't found a good match yet. I have tried Metallic pixie purple, but it was MUCH lighter than I thought it would be given the coloring in the photo. I was going to order another color, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here if anyone had any suggestions.

The other two I have considered from Coastal Scents include Amethyst Mica or the Orchid Shimmer Mica. Again, I would like something a little deeper purple. Have any of you used either of these colors to help guide me in the right direction? Do you have other suggestions to get a deep purple?

Thanks for your input!

K-state pen

Here is a pic of the blanks I used to make some pens for my friends to the south of me. As soon as I find who made them for me I'll let you know. These were sold with purple ink refils to match.(they loved that)

definitely go with the orchid summer. It's like a crown royal purple. and butch, i've been using coastal scents for over a year now and I've never seen that color on there...I even placed an order today and nothing like that. Sure you have the right company?

Thanks Brooks! I'll give that a try!

Yep , I got it from them but that was over 2 years ago . I bought several ounces of it back then for her , she has purple problems ... she procures every purple pen I make so I bought it to make pens for her so she would leave my other purple pens alone .... Hey , it worked up until now ., I don't see it any more .... NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

This is the only picture of one of the Patagonian purple blanks I can find
It was a PITH pen for Druid

That is a great purple Butch! I don't think they have anything quite like it now though:frown:. Here's a casting I did with the Orchid Summer last night (I needed some solid purple blanks anyhow so it worked out). I haven't cut into it yet but I think it will work great for what you're wanting.

Brookes, that looks great. Is that orchid summer alone or is it mixed with a little black there?
