Good afternoon. This morning I had a really pleasant experience making this kit. The blank I used was mesquite. Its part of a package @Edgar sent to me.
Big shout out & thanks to Edgar! This blank was very heavy. It cut & turned flawlessly. I used a new to me finishing process, sanded it down to 400 grit then Mylands sanding sealer, then Yorkshire grit, followed by 2 coats of Myland high build friction polish. I'm amazed how well it turned out.
Now for the bad part. This kit from PSI might just be a t*u*r*d. I was all excited to run to town and grab some Mach 3 refills. This handle has no problem snapping into the blade assembly. Its just the oposite. Takes brute force & grip to remove it. Oh well. I'll call them on Monday. Still had fun in my little shop.

Although i stopped using a razor since i finished my military service i was thinking about such a kit just for a special occasion. How these handles cope with water though? I mean even if i waterproof them with ca the inside of the handle will be wet from time to time no matter how carefull one can be. Can the razor be dissassembled easily? Cheers

The handle screws into the head piece. Simple. I think most people use CA finish or an acrylic blank for water resistance. Honestly I didnt consider that issue. I dont shave too often. I just thought it was a cool project with many good reviews. This one is so difficult to remove the blade, just not worth the effort. I'll call PSI next week and let em know, heck maybe they will replace it. Not going to loose any sleep over it.

Hi... they will most likely send a new kit. If not I have a Mach3 head. Will gladly send it to you. I use red loctite to keep the head from twisting when shaving...If I have to remove/replace the head I introduce a mini flame for a second or two above the thread. It will be hot so be careful when unscrewing. I only use acrylic for the handle. The acrylic blank handles water year after year. I personally would never use wood... (but it does look great)
The blade not fitting. Is it a brand name or brand X. It obviously only goes on one way. It should click on/off with a hint of resistance. Are the other blades duds?
PSI razor kits are a very good quality. I use a Mach3 daily. Do not let this discourage you. Welcome to IAP....and the wacky world of turning

Hey, thanks for the kind words, I do like this kit, And I'll probably cut another blank in acrylic. I'm sure PSI will make it right,
I enjoy these projects. Looking forward to more

Like you Mike I stopped shaving in 1974. There was a brief period that I was beardless but I've had a beard on full time since 1978. I always tell people I have it to cover the ugly. They laugh a lot but I kinda think it's true. When I came home from overseas as a U.S. Navy Sailor I had to grow my mustache back as my passport showed I had a mustache. The mustache has been on since 1972 and hasn't even been thought of ever shaving it off. I got a big honker so the mustache does a good job of covering It up. The only thing I shave now is my throat as the whiskers down there can drive me nuts. I spent a few nights in Athens but don't remember them so well. I was young and stupid and spent my time in the bars instead of enjoying the area and visiting some historic venues.

I wouldnt say that it was time misspent; education comes in many forms and shapes after all..

Daniel2025..How did it go with PSI?

PSI is great. I ordered a starter Tee Golf kit. 4 pieces ...2 chrome 2 gold... 2 gold were not in the box... They shipped 2 replacements today. They honor any reasonable issue/complaint.

Razor turned out Great, Didnt need to go to PSI. Went to a different store and bought a New Mach 3 with 2 refills, and Shazam! They worked great on the PSI handle. Come to find out the refills from Kroger were generic Junk. Lesson learned.
Very happy with results. Not going to sell this one. I'll start shaving now & then and use it. If I create another to sell I will use an acrylic blank
