I am in a local artisan group , on the members page it list professional affiliations .There are alot of turners ( not many doing pens ) that list aaw as affiliations . Should i list IAP as pro. affiliation . I have learned alot from this site , and there is something new to learn every day . I know this is a open fourm , and a few local chapters but is it professional . I have came a long ways from day one till now , finnishes , pens other than slims , few castings ( beans , coal , candy nerds ) , first show , first fountain pens ......
so what does it take to be professional affiliated . paid small donaition during the bash ( wished i was quicker ) i still want a >>>> IAP COFFEE MUG <<<<< hope there are some for next feb . bash .

While I think that the IAP and definitely not the AAW classify as a professional organization, your free to use them as you like if it makes you feel better in trying to sell you pens.

Probably not. One source lists

professional association

pro·fes·sion·al as·so·ci·a·tion (plural pro·fes·sion·al as·so·ci·a·tions)

noun Definition: society of professionals: an organization composed of members of a particular profession that regulates entry to and sets and maintains standards for that profession

There will be differing opinions, but neither the AAW nor the IAP have regulated entry into the association nor do they set and maintain standards for the profession.

I disagree a little with that Lou. I think the IAP does help to set the standards for penturning. But on the other hand it is a computer entity and I think that makes it different from something like the AAW. I tend to list IAP as a prof assoc that I belong to just like the AAW.

I don't know if it makes any difference to anyone that sees it but on my business card I list being a member of both . I list them not to say it makes my work any better but because I am proud to be a member of both of these great organizations.
