I've had good luck casting various things in clear PR, so I didn't think much about it when I tried casting some beer bottle caps I got.

These were single-tube pens (Sierra style), painted black, single bottle cap formed tightly around the tube. The first one I tried, I didn't seal the cap well to the tube, and got a bubble that came out from under the cap when the PR cured. So the next couple of times, I sealed around the edges with CA, and put vacuum to it while it cured. In each case, when I turned the blank I got separation from the PR and the tube, resulting in an unusable "milky" area.

After the first one, I made sure I was careful about not putting too much pressure when I mounted the blank on the lathe. I've tried both on a mandrel and TB, same thing happened each time.

Any ideas how I can avoid this? It's like the painted tube is so smooth the PR is not adhering. When I think back, all of my other clear casts have had a lot more things under the PR to "grip."

Thanks,

Gary
