Yep, way too small. You can alway just leave the top off the HF pot when not in use and throw a potted plant in it.

Not only is it too small, and maybe I'm missing something here, but you're moving into a small apartment? With no garage/shop, I presume? Are you going to be casting PR? Your neighbors are going to love you. And as a rental property owner myself, I can tell you your landlord will jump for joy when he finds out you're casting resins, of any kind, in his apartment!

For what it's worth, this process needs a bit more room than a "small apartment". How do you plan to pressurize/vacuum ANY pot configuration? With a compressor?!!! Oh, you'll be a favorite around there in no time!

Now, now!! Not to sound like Curtis, but he may be using a Polyeurethane based resin system that has low oder, not necessarily the same as having low VOCs.

That's why I asked if he was using PR. If it's Alumilite, the smell problem is gone, but unless he's planning on using a drinking straw for pressure/vacuum, the noise problem is still alive. Maybe there's a garage in the picture, but if not, I'd LOVE to hear about a silent compressor!!! I have plenty of room, but I'll throw mine into the river if there's a silent one out there.

And like I said, as a landlord, I'd be THRILLED with the mess part of it!

I have a small airbrushing compressor that is relatively quiet. It won't hit a high pressure, but it will be enough to cast Alumilite.

And I notice he ships to Canada via UPS they will hit you with a $30 to $60 fee for clearing customs. Never accept anything shipped from the States to Canada via UPS. Post office only, they might be slow but the buyer doesn't get hit with those hidden fees. DAMHIKT

Rick,
I will be going to Connaught (Kanata) near Ottawa to shoot during the first weekend in July. Are you nearby? If so, need anything REASONABLE brought up?

Jerry

Wow been busy for a few days. Thanks for all the replies guess it was indeed a bad idea. Glad I got you guys to help me out :D

Didn't think casting resin would actually stick that bad, we're looking into places with a garage now because we would like some extra room. But if not i'll lay off the casting for a little while.

I'd buy an HF pot and like Wolftat said, a small electric compressor. Cast alumilite only. The pot can be taken right down to the bare bones. Strip and plug everthing but the entry hole. Just a tire valve filler with guage to fill it. If the compressor is small enough, it can be stored in the pot and the pot in a closet. Smell is nothing, cost is cheap. The electric compressor is not that noisey and will provide enough for alumlite. 30 lbs of pressure is pretty darn strong.
