Presentation box for new Marine Corps officer

I just made a pen to give to our neighbors son-in-law who will be graduating Saturday night and becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

I am having a box laser etched with the Corps emblem but am thinking of not putting his rank on the box since that might change and hopefully he will use the box for years to come.

What's the popular opinion, put his currant rank on the box or leave it off?

George, I would put his current rank and date on it. By adding the date, you explain the rank difference as his career progresses.

Crazy Idea Here. Emblem and name on the outside. On the top of the inside have the rank and date lasered in and then has he progresses he can get the new rank and date added in.
