I'm preparing for my first PR cast, thanks to the great advice I've found on these forums.

I made two cuttingboard molds, although they were poly cuttingboards, not delrin. Poly, as most of you know doesn't cut cleanly, so these two molds were a bit of a pain to complete. They didn't seal well either, so I had to seal the joints with some silicone.

I've also made two silicone molds with Mold Max 30. One is a block mold that should cut up into 5 pen blanks, and the other is two individual pen blank blocks.

I haven't finished building a degassing chamber yet, or a pressure pot. I do have a small ultrasonic cleaner, and will soon have a decent vibra-plate.

I've purchased some Castin Craft Resin from Michaels. My local Michaels did not carry any opaque pigment, so I got some Powdered RIT dye. I've since learned that this may not be an suitable pigment. I've also picked up from these forums that another possible pigment is Testors Model Paint (enamel). However, I've been unable to find much in the way of specifics about using this type of pigment. Most of what I've read indicates that it will inhibit the PR cure to some degree, but I found no guidelines on using it with success.

I also have started to wonder about other pigments. Short of placing a special order for Micah Powder, what other locally available substances makes a suitable PR pigment? I happened to mention Pearl-EX to my wife, and she indicated that fingernail polish often contains it. Has anyone ever tried using fingernail polish as a PR pigment?

I would be grateful for any additional advice.

Michaels should have PearlEx powders. They are in the scrap booking section. Nearly the same as Mica Powders.

Paints can be used. Just stay away from anything that has water in it. Water inhibits curing of the PR.
