My FIL is facing some serious surgery one day this week and Connie and I would like y'all to remember him in your prayers. He was born with a hernia(in his diaphram). It was never a problem and he is actually ashamed of it because it kept him out of the military when all his brothers were serving. Just the kind of guy he is!
Anyway over time his stomach has pushed up through the hernia to such an extent that as it fills it twists and causes a blockage preventing the stomach from emptying.
The surgery is pretty involved and the potential for complications are high. Of course given his age (75) any surgery can be serious. His doctor is sending him to UAB which has one of the best Cardio-thoracic surgeons in the country so we're comfortable with the level of his care but none the less we're still worried.
Please remember him and my MIL as well as Connie and her two sisters, in prayer. Their parents have alway for the most part been very healthy so they've not had to face a lot of things like this.
Thanks,
Mike

You are mighty, Lord, who brings healing to the sick,
You are great in granting salvation,
providing the living with sustenance, with lovingkindness,
caring for the sick with great mercies,
supporting the fallen, healing the sick,
releasing the captive,
and keeping faith with those who are lost among the living,
Who is like you, Master of mighty acts, and who compares to you,
King who restores health, and causes salvation to sprout,
You who are faithful, comforting the ill among us,
Blessed are You, Lord who heals the sick.

Sending a prayer for your father in law and the entire family. I'll also pray for those who will be providing the care he needs.

John

Hi Mike;
We will keep you all in our prayers and if you don't mind what is your FIL and MIL names. I like being specific.

Thanks everyone!
They've transported him to UAB this afternoon and probably do some additional testing tomorrow and hopefully the surgery will be Thursday.
He's in good spirits despite having nothing to eat or drink since last week and just wants to get this over with. Connie did some checking and the surgeon doing this has done more of these type surgeries than any other doctor in the country and has even developed techniques for manipulating the muscle and nerves before spreading the ribs so as not to cause so much trauma in the area. I'm glad his doctor realized the limitations of our hospital (altho it is a great hospital) and doctors and arranged to have the surgery done at UAB.

Mark, their names are Rethal and Dot Hightower. Thanks again for all the prayers! I'll keep everyone updated.
Mike

Hey Mick, I'm setting down the skew and picking up the prayer. I'm sure he will be fine.

Prayers for your FIL and all the family and those caring for him that all goes well and healing comes soon.

Lord I ask that you guide the surgians hands, I ask that Mick's FIL will come through just fine. I ask that there will not be any pain with this surgery. If it be in your will I ask for a miracle that there will not have to be any surgery and that the hernia will be gone. You are a mighty God and I ask that you give this entire family peace.

Quick update....I've been without internet since Saturday plus we're at at show. Father in Laws surgery was put off due to low nutrient levels. This was due to being on just an IV for two weeks. He's UAB now and they put in a Pic (sp)? line with a nutrient solution. Levels are high enough now and surgery will be either tomorrow or Thursday. He's still doing good and is worried about his garden. I had to go this morning cut some broccoli and stake and cage his tomatoes. Keep him in you prayers this week. We're confident that he's in the best hands and will come through everything great.
Thanks folks,
Mike
