I'm far from some of the work I've seen here, but with a little more practice, I think I'll get close one day. Here's one I decided not to use. It is a combination of Oak and Cherry wood.

Bobby, not speaking as the contest chair right now, but as a fellow segmenter. With each design you are refining your skills and are really getting a critical eye for symmetry, wood combinations and an appealing visual presentation.

Here, I like the attention you paid to the dimensions of the rings and the alignment of the middle sections.

Thanks Mark! It's a lot harder than I thought to try to make a design using a 3/4" blank and turning it down to a little over 10mm and coming out like you hoped it would. Lol

Yes! What we see at 3/4" is not what will be there at 10 mm. I usually design my patterns from the inside out.

Both of these patterns will look very different at final dimension. For the schematic, most of the outside blocks will be essentially gone - so why build it as it looks here - this I need to tweak prior to construction.

For the lathe mounted blank, before I cut it into slices, If I want rectangles or squares, I will need to estimate what the color dimensions are at bushing size. If the width at bushing size is .462", then my slices need to be .462" - then I'll get something close to a square (yea, right). If I want a rectangle, then the slices need to be smaller than .462".

Excellent Segmented Pen, Bobby.
You are so right, they are a lot more difficult than you imagine.
Perhaps you should get a pair of special Glasses, like Marks, that look into the Blank at the 10mm Zone. :glasses-cool::biggrin:
