Tried this glue up yesterday and sanded and finished it today.

I re-sawed wood and made two identical panels both 3/8" thick . Then I glued them together with the grain in opposite directions to make it 3/4" . After cutting out the rings I was not real pleased with the way it came out about mid way on the sides of the bowl but we learn by experimenting like this. I probably won't do it that way again because it takes lots of time for that type of glue up but cutting the rings and glue up and finishing takes no longer than a plain one or a simple glued up panel.

If anyone has plans for some unique type of glue ups I am willing to try just about anything within reason just to see how it comes together in a bowl .

One nice thing about doing the double panel thing is that it makes it look like 8 rings on the side rather than 4 but not sure if the extra time to do it is worth it.

Thanks for the comments .
When looking at the picture posted this one is different than most where they usually look better in the hand than in the picture. This one looks better in the picture than in the hand.
Where the slanted walnut crosses the vertical walnut does not look great in the hand but in the picture I am beginning to like it more .

I'll take your word for it that the picture is better than in person, but the picture sure is nice! I like the pattern.

Looks very nice to me, and it's hard to believe that the bowl doesn't look as good as the picture.
Whether it's worth the extra time can only be known when it comes time to sell it???
Your work never fails to amaze me.
Bob.

Like I have said in the past , it is very hard to get any more than $29.00 in my area for anything at craft sales. For big ten inch bowls bowls like that one I might hold out for $39.00 for a year or two but at that price it is usually a case of displaying it and bringing it back home many times because of being over priced. Making a little bit of something is always better than making a whole lot of nothing.

So that is what I meant about wondering if it is worth the extra time. Takes hours to plane and glue up a board like that and only minutes to glue up a plain one .

Now if I was close enough to a big city where I could display my stuff I would be able to ask a better price.

Point taken William, I guess that when it comes down to the gritty facts, it's all about doing what you want and having fun. If we had to pay ourselves $200 per hour we would never sell anything.

Definitely worth the extra time!
The extra rings make the bowl look a lot deeper then it really is.....and the pattern you've got going on draws the eye into the piece!!

Scott (got be worth double too) B
