I've been casting some stamps and lables lately and have had problems
with the PR separating when pressing the assembly together.
Seems like cigar pens do it the most, gents and jr gents do fine.
Silmar 41
Painted tubes
Heated molds
~50psi
Post cure
Look fine as cast, great when turned.
As the components are pressed in you can see the resin pull away from the tube.
Heat the resin before assembly so it gives?
Or clearance the tube/pen component so it fits loose and use a drop of ca?

Try to chamfer your tubes before you press your component in. It sounds like the clearance is too tight and any slight misalignment will cause the tube to oval and PR crack.

Also, ensure your press is straight. Any angle will cause tube expansion beyond what is expected.

Absolutely. I asked the same question here a while back. I was told to do a chamfer or a reamer. It worked for me.

I will give it a shot tomorrow.
The acrylic isn't cracking, it's separating from the tube leaving a shiny "shadow". It does appear to be too tight of a fit.
Chamfer and ream tomorrow.
Thanks guys!

I would favor CA over the acrylic spray only because it is likely to be firmer.
It should also bond to the paint, and it will bond to the resin.. hopefully that
will also help stop any separation. I'll sometimes get resin lifting off of acrylic
paint, but I don't recall getting that with CA.
