Has anyone casted anything that had CA under the PR???? In other words has anyone applied CA to something and coated it. After it dried then casted using PR??? If so what were the results??? Did the resin react in anyway with the CA??? Was the resin still crystal clear??? Did the CA get cloudy or did the resin not bond on the CA coated item??? Thanks for the replys.

I've done it a few times, but I applied the CA like you would for a finish. Then cast it an hour or so after. No problems.

CA over casting

Yes have done it with snake skins. Brushed on CA over the scales and this helps seal them. Helps with bubbles, they wont stick. Then place in pressure pot like normal.

Me, too. But, make sure it gases off for a couple of days.

As Bruce said you can do it. BUT CA is dose not dry instantly like we think. It sets to the touch and feels dry and in most cases is not a problem. Until you cap it or cast it. CA will out gas for days and in the case of casting the gas has no were to go. So it will show as a shimmer and may not show rite away and get worse a day or 2 later. CA also will show on caped pen such as roller balls. If you used CA in your cap and put the cap on rite away it will fog your nib. You can use CA and I have but leave it dry to gas out at least 3 days depending how much you used.

I've noticed this when gluing up my pens during assembly....I would glue with CA, put the cap on, and there would be this foggy white film all over the nib. I figured it was some kind of off gassing, so I switched to using epoxy for assembly. It's a little more work to mix it up and use it, but I like it better because if I get a little squeeze out on the hardware I can wipe it off easily, unlike with CA. Anyway, back to the thread!

Thanks for the info. I am trying it and right now leaving the blank to dry a couple days before I cast it. I was having problems casting this material because of bubbles no matter what I did. I will see if this helps and then I can try what I want to try. Thanks again.
