I'm new at this and was wondering when you make a casting using different layers of color. Do they have to poured when wet are can they be poured in stages after one color dries? What I'm trying to do is make bottle stopper blanks in different color combo layers.

Where is good place to buy PR and which one works the best?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

Have you noticed when unmolding PR castings that the top surface of the PR is tacky? This property of PR allows pouring of additonal layers after each previous layer cures. Be careful not to let any junk (sawdust, PR shavings/overrun, etc) or too many fingerprints get into the tacky surface. This junk will sometimes show up in the finished product. DAMHIKT.

BTW, you can just wait for the tackiness to cure out (a day or two here in Louisiana) or pop it into a toaster oven on the lowest setting (~150-200 F) for 15 -20 minutes. Some say this makes the blanks more brittle but I've had no issues. Dedicate an oven to PR cooking for the sake of food safety. Also, buy the wife a new toaster oven before hijacking the existing one. DAMHIKT.

I have used the resin from Artstuf and also Silmar 41 (usually cheaper) with equally excellent results.

Have fun and post pics of your results.
