Here are a few stoppers I made this weekend. The colored portions were done with mica powders from Coastal Scents, I did put some gold leaf in the Red Hat blank. The gold leaf blank was so easy, I think I used a little too much gold leaf, but it really was not that much at all. I heated the resin in a HF ultrasonic sink and then used 7 drops of MEKP per ounce and the blanks were set up in about an hour. I am probably living on the edge, but I drilled, tapped and turned them about 2 to 4 hours after I poured them and didn't have any problems at all. Silmar 41 is some pretty awesome stuff!

Tomorrow I'm picking up a Nikon D3100, hopefully I'll have better luck taking pictures with it!

The red hat looks sharp. Did you cast the main portion, add the hat and pour clear over it?

Good luck with the D3100. That was what I wanted, but ended up getting the Rebel XS instead for a bit cheaper.

You got it, that is exactly what I did with the red hat. I didn't wait for the bottom half to cure completely, just enough so the hat wouldn't sink. I am amazed that heating the resin completely removes any bubbles from the clear portion...that was one of the best tips I have learned on this site.

Just curious how much gold leaf goes into a blank and if it is real gold? If you could share your source off gold leaf as well that would be great.

I bought the gold leaf at a craft store, Michaels. As for quantity, I think I used about a tablespoon, but ended up making 2 stoppers with that quantity. I think a little less would look a lot better.
