I'm having no luck casting a black and orange blank. It keeps coming out golden yellow and black. I had similar issues with yellow, red and black mixing into a red-orange solid color.

I'm using Pearl Ex Pumpkin Orange and Pearl Ex Carbon Black. Castin' Craft PR is the resin. I've had 3-4 pours into 7"-9" pvc pipes. The last pour even had the black solidify to an unmanageable goo towards the end of the pour. I've also tried casting with and without using a wire to swirl at the end of the pour.

Orange and white are casting just fine. Is the solution for an orange/black swirl to just use a rectangular horizontal mold?

Hi, I didn't seem to have any problems when I did these. They are just opaque colors but I poured them quite quickly. It is just water clear polyester resin that I use. I had concerns about my colors blending but as yet I have not done too badly.

How many drops of catalyst are you using per 1oz of resin? I like to use 3-4 drops per 1oz of resin. To get really nice color separation you want both colors to be gelling at the same time. The best description I can give is the consistency of Karo syrup. That's when you want to pour in your mold and swirl.

Casting horizontally won't really change your situation. From the sound of things it might be worse horizontal. It all depends on your timing.

I haven't used those micas but it sounds like you need to increase the amount of atleast the orange. When you have color changes like that it's usually due to lack of pigment.

Success last night. I don't know if it was the temperature changes (it was 72 degrees when we poured compared to high 80s to low 90s previous times) or if it was the dyes we used. (The wife started with red and yellow liquid tint and then added Pearl Ex Pumpkin Orange to the cup). We got a beautiful black and orange casting last night.
