Tried out Polymer Clay for the first time. Tried to make a rose cane which I would slice up and apply to turnings. Rose was a dismal failure, but the pattern still looks reasonably decent. Took one of the gulleys cut out of my flame bowl, applied some slices, baked then carved into a heart. Finish is rattle can lacquer. Not sure if this should become a broach or an earring. A little over an inch (3 cm) across.

More slices from my first Polymer Clay cane applied to a cherry burl "thing" that has been sitting next to my lathe for a year. I think it's an ice cream bowl now. Finish is EM6000 waterborne lacquer. Around 5" (12 cm) across.

Might not be what you had in mind when you started the cane, but I think it looks quite nice. Almost like a field of cali-lillies or something similar. It adds a nice touch to the bowl, and the heart shaped piece works well too.

Thanks, I had fun making this first cane, and plan to experiment more. Even though it did not turn out as planned, I do like how the cane worked out. I think I know what I did wrong, and will keep trying to make a rose. I have some other ideas too.

Looks real nice Eric. Always did like mixed media. I've been experimenting some with clay as well for inlays. A lot of potential.
