I just started making my own resin blanks. My question is what do you use to make the clear resin opaque so the tubes don't show through? I tried the pearl white from Douglas and Sturgess. This helped some bu the tubes were still visible. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Well, you need to use colouring products that aren't translucence or of the "interference" type from the Pearlex brand. You have mainly 3 colourant options, the liquid ones that are translucent, the solid past colours, they are solid colours and will look like a thick paint, opaque and a fixed colour or, you use the best option in my view, which is the PEARLEX (brand name) powders that will give you from semi-transparent such as the white pearls type, the interference type colours, the Du0 colours or, the colours that we all use as quite solid colours but giving that pearl, swirl and other effects that we all like so much. Colours such as the Sky-blue, Red Russet, True blue, and Spring-Green (once called Forest Green), are the most common but there are many other colours to select from
Have a look here at some of the "pigments" used with PR (Polyester Resin). Note that this firm is in Australia and the one nearest to me (Adelaide) however, Pearlex powders and other options are found all over the world...!
The suggestion given by other members are correct, if you want to use a translucent/semi-transparent colour in you resin mix, that' when you need to paint the tube, reverse paint (paint the blanks inside) or both...!
I hope this answers your question...!
Cheers
