I've read several post on different kinds of finishes. I generally use CA and sometimes BLO/CA finishes on my pens and duck/deer calls.

I've just started turning turkey pot calls and was wonder what would be the best finish, polyurethane or lacquer. The call would be submitted to the outdoor weather, but on a limited basis. Generally the calls are carried in a pocket or "fanny" pack and held in the users hand when calling. The finish needs to be satin or even duller to reduce glare.

Any ideas? I tried Spar urethane (supposed to be better for exterior, but this was way to "shiny".

Once I can figure out how to post pictures to a thread I'll post a few.

Thanks,

How are you finishing the inside of the duck call barrel with the CA finish? The inside of the barrel is subjected to warm moist air and needs to be finished.

I use medium or thick CA and use a narrow flat stick to smooth it out. I do that BEFORE finishing the outside. While the inside is not finished to the same perfection as the outside, I do mount both parts in a chuck, with protective cushy wrap, and sand the inside reasonably smooth.
