I want to extend my deepest thank you to you all here at IAP! I just did my first turning demo at woodcraft and have been ask to do another turning demo at another time. I was uncertain how this would go so I kept very low key about it. I am nowhere near any professional or great wood worker of any type. I am just an average everyday hobby pen turning that loves what I do.
I spent 2 weeks planning blind with only the experience of some computer teaching and my motorcycle teaching demo experience and transposed into making an entire day demo. I mean from 10am to 4 pm almost nonstop demo. Well I must say that WOW I pulled it off and I am guessing IMHO it went very well!
My thanks to all here at IAP without everything extra I learned here to build my confidence as well as the much knowledge I would have never been able to pull this off. This was fun as well as very exhausting but as you can tell by my thank you very heartfelt to you all it was fun and I would surely do it again!

Congratulations... that's a big validation for you...
I've always found the prep is the hardest part...
People typically underestimate their own capabilities...
A successful demo leaves you with confidence in your own skill set and more importantly it makes you feel really good...
Good job...

Oh yha funny after thought this really did happen and nope no pictures. LOL!!!!! lots and lots of witnesses though. I was almost freaked out by all the people they made this seem like a small deal. I guess it was compared to some of the pros around here. but it was super big deal to myself and I loved it after the lathe started and the nerves settled it was great! THANKS EVERYONE!

Karin,
When you are doing what you like, it goes well. Enthusiam is contagious. Good job and maybe Charlie and I will see you this summer as you go wheeling through.

I'm sure you did a great job. Your enthusiam is contagious. The woodcrafts around here just do a class. Make your own slimline in about an hour and a half. 6 hours must have been a lot to prepare. Looking forward to here more.

Hey Congrats!!
Now that you're all famous and stuff, are you still gonna talk to us little people?

any job that involves sharing what you love to do is a good day's work.

Thats great Karin! Congrats!

Nothing much better than sharing your talent to a receptive audience - unless its having them come back wanting you to share their initial cost outlay . . . "because you got (them) started!

Really, though,

Karin,

I am a professional trainer and public speaker, and to be honest, even after turning for two years, I'm not sure I would take on a public demo/class for the lathe.

Congratulations and a HUGE PAT ON THE BACK for doing the demo. Now the that the mystery is over, the next 100 or so will be a snap! *grin*

Hey, Karin, when are you coming to the Atlanta Woodcraft and do your thing with us? I'll just bet you get an invitation to the S.E. IAP Chapter pretty soon from Rojo.

Congratulations on your first of many demo's.

Wow. Super thanks again you all just keep my great feeling from this first going here.

My biggest fear was to have some major turner come up and say wow look your doing this this and this wrong.... But nada thatdidnt happen and there was some knowing turners in the watching and even ask questions.

Karin

Congratulations!

I have always found that the best folks to do demos like your's is the excited and passionate practitioner! It sounds like you did a great job, and I know you feel good giving your knowledge to those who were very receptive, and excited about increasing their skills. Thank you for sharing our hobby with them, and I hope you created a few new penturners!

You have an open invitation to come on down to the ATL and demo for us anytime!

Keep sharing your enthusiasm!

Robert

I found just doing craft shows to be mentally and physically draining! I can only imagine how that must have been for you.
That's really GREAT! Congrats!

Thank you all I am still running high adn proud.. however yes very draining. I did nothing yesterday was so lazy. no mental or physical energy inside me anywhere.

Thanks, I was looking for you to perhaps pop in. Our woodcraft is so wonderful with super nice staff. I encourage all IAP members to come and visit them. (like those pro bass shop people travel to see there stores.) Plan a woodcraft travel and put West Seneca, NY store on the top list as well as come see me too. LOL!!!

Karin, sounds like you did a great job and had a great time doing it. What with your motorcycle teaching and all you sound like a natural teacher. Keep it up, you can never tell where this might lead you. Follow your dream.

Yo, GO KARIN! big congrats. And I will just add that the greatest people at anything never think they are. it is part of what makes them great. I am thrilled for you.
