I have been turning bottle stoppers and pens from Tom for a bit now. I ordered in some Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple pine. Was going to wait to finish one last flag pen before posting but will throw up a picture today.

Ok,I did not set up photo booth so took pictures in kitchen with shades open.

The pens are for a customer that wanted the colors of the Mexican and Venezuelan flags. There was some spalting in the wood that makes the colors look "used". (that is what the customer said) He really liked it. The best part is the color goes all the way through.

The bottle stopper was for my trainer, it was also my first try at inlaying opals into something. I ordered some extra of each color and might be willing to part with some. If interested I can figure out the price. If enough interest, I can look at a group buy.

What a coincidence. I bought four large blocks of colored Aspen from Tom back in November. I turned them into large bowls for Christmas gifts. I'll try to find the pictures I took and post them. The colors are pretty cool .... I had two blocks with red and another two with green. Just a little heads up ... Aspen can sometimes have punky spots.

Pictures! We want pictures!

Fascinating. I have bookmarked. From a business standpoint, they had to do some serious planning and investment before seeing a return. And, I'm sure, even today, the wait to harvest is incredible.

I talked a lot to Tom when planning the pens. He has been doing it for many years, the work you see on the site is his. The lamp shades are made out of leaves (if I remember correctly) and saw dust. He became allergic to some of the woods so now his son does all the milling. They use every part of the tree, nothing goes to waste. I really enjoyed turning the pens and bottle stoppers. I turned 2 others but have not taken pictures of them. My only concern is how soft pine is, I tell my customers it is soft and it will ding if they are not careful.

Here are a couple pictures of what the wood looks like.
