plastic HDPE

That is what Lizard Blanks uses for their so yeah, it works. I use Alumilite clear slow in a lizard blank without any issue. Although getting the blank out of the mold does require some brute force.

yes - I built mine from HDPE and i like the results. Several versions. First was layering HDPE on some plywood substrate (because I had the 1/4" HDPE handy. After that was successful, I bought 3/4" and made the next batch (which I also like). I use a release agent and haven't had issues getting the blanks out. One thing - I screw the molds together so it's important to label the sides so they go back together to prevent leaks, etc.

If I redo them in the future, I'll make them a little deeper than 3/4". The resin seems to shrink as it cures. Not a big issue but if I'm pouring over wood or something else, I don't like it sticking up after the resin cures.

HDPE works fine for molds. You'll want to get some spray mold release because as you use them they will get a little harder to demold with age. I suggest you buy smooth HDPE and not textured cutting boards. The texture will help hold your cast in the mold making it real hard to demold and the plastic will get brittle over time.
