Every once and a while, when I am looking over my kit inventory, blanks, etc. I clean off my workbench and take out my velvet lined pen carrying case to admire the pens I have made over the years, i.e, the ones I haven't given away. Now that I put myself in that mood, I lock the doors, pull down the shades, make sure no one else is around. I go to my secret hiding spot, get the key to the vault, open the vault and take out the case. I open the case and gaze upon the most beautiful pen I have ever owned. Two years later and I still cannot make a pen that even comes close. (and I've come a long way in two years). It is a Gentlemen's pen, made from Walnut root with the most amazing finish I have ever seen.

Where did I get this work of art? I got it in the 2008 PITH from Jay Devin.

Thanks again Jay for providing incentive to increase my pen making skills.

Excited

As this is my first Pith, all the talk of past ones, great conversation and challenges of this year I am really excited. I have not been turning long but hell I'm in group 2 and I am going to impress hopefully. I have learned a lot so far from everyone on this board it is amazing. Now I get to really get involved and trade some pens. I am already cleaning and clearing a spot in my shop where I can build in a case to hold pith pens and some of my own. I think I may even fancy it up a bit and put some low volt lights to set the mood

Any who I look forward to this great event and more to come. Thanks to the moderator of this event this year, butch for the challenge, you louie for setting the mood!!!

I have been through 2 PITH's now this is my third and the first one I was paired with Neil (Wolftat) and I recieved an amazing 360 HB Sierra which I keep on my desk in the box and open it up to get inspiration. I am going to try a 360 but who knows how it may come out. My second was a Red Elm Burl I got through wwodworkers forum from the land of OZ from Rick in Canada A Red Elm Burl Baron that has been another inspiration as the Baron is my favorite pen to date, made and sold alot of them. Anyways Lou you tale makes more sense that most will believe till they recieve there's.

This will be my fourth on this site and others. I have the pens on their own stand where I can see them often. They are each special. I refuse to let anyone use them. My first swap was when I was just learning. I learned alot from those first swaps and it pushed me to do my best work.

Lou, you're story is very inspiring ,but I got nothing to add. I haven't even made my first pen yet, so I'll see who is gonna kick my in the butt and push to the excellence. he/she is going to laugh more on my pen than putting it in their collection like you did.
