Well I think it's time to call this years PITH officially closed for this year. I want to thank everyone who has put their name in the hat and who has fullfilled their obligations to ther partners. Also to Cav for helping out in the beginning by keeping track of everyone who has entered and updating the thread every day.

I hope this was a fun experience for all the new members here as well as all the veterans. We had a record turnout of around 170 people.

With that being said I know and realize that some people hasn't fulilled their obligation to their partner. Some had issues and other obligations that they couldn't complete their pen on time but they let their partners know ahead of time and that was going to be a delay. As long as they were kept in the loop of what was going on everything was fine.

The problem some came across was that they couldn't contact their partner or their partner was deliberately hiding out. For that I'm sorry that some had to go through that and I wish that everyone who entered would've received a pen.

What I'd like to know, for the next time I or anyone else organizes the next PITH , by PM and not on this thread who has not received their pen. I will keep a list so that the next time one is organized they won't be allowed to participate unless they had a very good reason for not coming through for their partners. I think it's a shame that someone would promise something to someone than back out and hide for no good reason.

Another thing is not acknowledging to your partner that you have received your pen. Just a simple email or thanks on the forum would be the least you could do.

I also would like to especially thank Jay Devin for the pen he sent me. He sent me a pen as a thank you for putting this together. I really appreciated his kindness as my own partner didn't send a pen to me. I feel as if I shouldn't have to chase anyone down to make my or anyone else's pen. If they can say I'm in, then they should have the decency to follow through.

I had a great time putting this togther and while there were a few mistakes and errors I made in the beginning with the pairings and misspelled names I apologize for that and I hope there were a few new friendships made through this exchange and hopefully the next one will be even better than this one.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

Thank you Lance for your hard work and all of your effort. Also, thanks to Cav for his work behind the scenes. Isn't it ironic that the guy who put in all of those hours and hours organizing and running the 2008 PITH ...... got stiffed? Pretty rotten deal.

Lance,
I to want to thank you for taking on this task. I was unable to connect with the first person I was paired with for me to make his pen but after the posting of no shows all went well. In the no show pairings I got ldb200 "Butch" and he should be getting his pen in the mail today.

Hope you like it Butch and thanks again to warreng8170 for the pen he made for me.

Grant

Thank you Lance! I was a bit hesitant, because i wasn't sure I was good enough yet. I've got a new standerd of excellence to shoot for with the drop dead pen I recieved from bananjeep, and a nice thank you from carverken. I look forward to the next go round!

Thanks

I also want to thank Lance and all the ones who worked behind the scenes who made this years PITH a success. It's always nice to recieve other turners work and to make new friends. I look forward to the next one whenever that may be.

Thank you Lance and Cav for all the hard work in this PITH--I for one thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and am already looking forward to next time! Its a pity that some folks made the initial commitment, then didn't see fit to follow up on that commitment--kinda takes a bit of the gloss off an otherwise flawless finish, so to speak.

Lance, thanks for all of the hard work you did on this PITH.

I let everyone know I would be late in getting mine done, and I remained in contact with my partner, and he did get his pens (yes I sent two as my way of saying thanks for having to wait for his pen). I really worried about this, but since I had committed, I had to follow thru. I am looking forward to the next one. :)

Thanks again for all the work from everybody that made this a success. I got a great pen and got to send another sample of my work to the UK. It's a shame that some did not chose to fulfill their obligation. That's how it goes with families and with a family as large as this one there are bound to be a few bad apples.

Lance & Cav, Thanks to made this 2008 PITH another success, I'm sorry for members who as been left down I think some rules should be made for it, just a thought, like other members every year I add people to my friend list, I will wait to the 2009

Lance

I too want to say thank you for the PITH this was my first one. It was a good experience for me and went smoothly. I look forward to participating in future ones.

Thanks

Lance;
THANK YOU and the team who kept it all organized. What a great way to get to know one another through this World Wide Group. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Hello Lance & all others; I've been here only a very short time and have gained a lot of knowledge just reading.

I have turned approx. 50 - 60 pens so far, and feel I am getting better with each one. I have participated in 2 pen exchanges, receiving 2 great pens and hopefully my trades were appreciated.

I hope to be around for the next PITH, if I only knew what it meant!!

Personally, I think you should hold it open bit longer and allow those who havent yet finished, complete their obligation. I, too, have been stiffed in the past in a PITH and would not do that to someone else. I, personally, had some higher priority isssues arise and have yet to finish my partners pen. I have contacted him to let him know. I am not saying that because I want it posted here, but my partner may.
Glenn

At least you let your partner know about it Glenn. I seem to have been stiffed by someone I never thought would do something like that.

As I said, if other priorities took your time away from making your pen it's perfectly understandable. As long as you keep your partner updated on your progress that's great. That's the right thing to do. By all means if it takes another two or three weeks to get your pen done and you communicate back and forth with each other on the progress that's great. Some people never even tried to contact their partners from the beginning or even after one email exchange.

Lance,
First off, I would like to restate the above comments.
As one who hasnt completed my commitment yet (I expect to do so this week), as I am and have been out of town and prior to that had some other commitments that came up unexpectedly, I ask that you give those that are late a bit of slack. I was stiffed on a prior PITH, but it was the giving that I got the most from, anyways. I cant imagine anyone taking with out giving, unless they have been unfortunate in their immediate position or in their upbringing. Either way, it is sad.
Perhaps we just keep a running list (or mark their bio page) of those who have not fulfilled and refuse their entry into all following PITHs, until they complete the previous one and have the mark removed.
I would like to suggest a future PITH as a collaborative project. The first person makes a pen, sends it to the second (without previous communication), he/she makes a complimentary holder, box or case, the third receives it. Each person makes a pen, a holder and receives one. This gives each of us a chance to go outside the pen making envelope, playing off others ideas.

Lance and Cav,
I love the concept of the PITH and plan to participate in everyone I can... I know both of you guys put a lot of work into organizing this year's swap and you both have my thanks and I'm sure the thanks of every turner on the IAP.

Over the few years I've participated, I have received some fabulous pens and cherish each and everyone... and I do hope that whomever received one from me was as well pleased.

Hi All
LanceD I want to thank you for all the hard work you put into this PITH . I received my penS (he made a second for the LOML) from GAD5265 this morning and they are both beautiful , I will be posting pictures of them over the weekend , Thank you very much Grant .
I'm still working on the PITH pen (I only get an hour or two of turning time a night) for Nolan (How do you make a special pen for the man with some of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen , Will show you in a couple of days):biggrin::biggrin:

Thaks Lance. This is my third PITH and I now have three great pens in my collection and three new friends. Thanks this year to Neil Pabian for my Marblewood Closed-end baron FP.
