Finally got the pressure pot done. It works great. Wanted to cast those pinecones Jay suggested. I think I want to just sit and stare at the blanks awhile.

Very nice. I am a pinecone addict too. I tried some of those tiny ones, there's tons out front and they really do look like little roses. The huge open white pine cones aren't so great. The spruce cones that average about 3" long, and are wide and very concentrated at the bottom and thin out as they go up...those are my favorite.

I love your color choice on those. be sure and paint your holes to hide your tubes!

Terry,

May I suggest you bring one of those blanks to the North Texas chapter meeting on the 22nd ---- and not bring it out until my number is drawn. LOML wants to know where you found pine cones in the DFW area. We can pick tons of them up when we visit friends in The Woodlands.

Those are terrific looking blanks! Very nice work. I would love to see a finished pen, once you've looked at the blanks long enough.

Thanks Charles - instead of autumn sunset maybe I should call it "pinecones ala Charles"...... love the interference colors.

Rudy, funny you should mention the meeting.... I was thinking of doing just that. I look forward to meeting you there!

I just couldn't stare at them for very long. My fingers got itchy and I had to turn at least one. What an adventure!

Serge,

There were 4 small pinecones cast into a brick that was cut into 3 blanks. Workinforwood sent me even smaller pinecones from Wisconsin that I cast in purple, royal, turquoise and interference violet. Those came out pretty cool too. :) FUN!!!! Being a female I can say "I love the pretty colors!!".

Veeeery nice, Terry.

If you don't mind my asking a newbie question, what color (or colors) did you use for the PR?

Hi Dan,

Equal amounts of 4 color mixtures:

Pearl Ex Interference Gold

Pearl Ex Brilliant Gold + Maize Yellow Mixol Paste

Pearl Ex Super Bronze + burnt orange

Pearl Ex Super Russet + Red & Oxide Red Mixol Paste

I would give the exact amounts, but it just really depends on the size of the molds and how much you're pouring as to amounts. If your casting with Alumilite..... there's not enough time unless you have an extra pair of hands handy. Hope this helps. If not send me a PM and we'll figure it out.

I like the pinecones....anyone ever try stabilizing gumballs? I got hit by one today coming out of my shop....I bet they'd look neat too.

HEY HEY...I'm not BADGER !!! This is the Wolverine State.

I knew that..... I really meant Michigan.... really I did.....

Sorry Jeff.

Sure... Apologize to Jeff for think he is from a state with better pinecones

Actually if someone wants a box of the little ones from around here, I'd LOVE to trade for some of those monster ones out west.

You know, if I could bend my leg in that manner, I would be kicking my Butt all the way back to California... During my first marriage, the Starter wife and I collected a ton of those little Redwood pinecones... they ran from about 8 or 9 inches to about 15 inches long. I cleaned house before I moved out of Calif and decided I didn't have any use for them.... that was before I got interested in wood turning. We must have had 20 or 30 of those things laying around the house in various "artistic" displays.
