I have agreed to provide some pens for the gift shop at our local museum. Proceed will be used to support local museum activities. I have been trying to find wood with some historical significance to make them with. I have some pieces of wood from the Nordmeer, which is a ship than ran aground in Thunder Bay in 1966, and some wood from an early school that was torn down a number of years ago.

I guess what I am looking for are ideas and possibly acquiring some pieces of wood with a wider historical meaning. If I remember correctly, someone mentioned they had some wood from a WWII destroyer---it would be fantastic to acquire a small piece for this project.

Any and all comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Herb
I have some cool river reclaimed hardwoods. Beech, white oak, red oak, hickory, chestnut, and poplar. This wood use to be a part of an underwater crib wall that was part of the Marmet lock and dam in WV. It was placed in the river by the USACE in the 20's. I have the historical pis of it being built I can supply on request with each order. It has very nice staining to it. I also have some 10,000 year old bog oak from WV as well as some wood from pre civil war log homes. Send a PM if interested. Thanks
Travis

If this is the Besser museum, you can tie in a pen with their 'Year of Astronomy" theme. Here is a pen where I epoxied confetti stars to slimline blank and then cast it in clear PR.

In any event, I would try to make it something that either ties into the theme of the museum, or into local history.
