Does anyone know of a listing somewhere of some quality refills for pens? I would like to replace, say, the refills in my Cigars and Sierras with some better ink as opposed to the ballpoints. I would think that might help them sell a little better, but maybe thats just me. Also, I see you can get the "gel type ink" for the slimlines, but was curious on the difference in writing on those. I have checked out penrefillsnow.com and see they have a lot of options, but would like to have myself kind of straight before I commit to some things. Have any of you used any of these, specifically a rollerball on the sierras or cigars? TIA

Jason,

Look at Anthony Turchetta's site (Penworks).

He has a number of different Parker style refills, made in Germany. Good stuff and not too expensive.

Besides, it keeps Anthony from killing all the local wildlife to feed himself!!!

Upgrade Parker Refills

Jason,
I have tested MANY of the Parker style refills - Schneider, Schmidt, Parker, Visconti, Itoya, Fisher...

My top recommendation is the Visconti Medium Gel point refill. I purchase them in black. They are $3.75 from Anthony Turchetta, which is the best price on the internet, plus reasonable and fast shipping, .

The Visconti comes in a 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 tip, which is Fine, Medium, and Thick. The Medium is my favorite.

The gel refills made by Parker are also good, and readily available in the office supply stores.

As far as the Cross-style refills, there's not quite the variety as the Parker-style. Fisher makes a Space Pen refill that works well, and is a "novelty" to sell, or go with the actual Cross made refills.

You have hit upon a very important aspect of pen-making that can make a major difference to the end-user! The writing experience comes down to the tip of the refill - how does it flow as the user writes? An elegant looking pen that skips and blobs because of a cheap refill is...a cheap pen, regardless of the dress it's in. You can put lipstick on a .... well - you understand!

Bruce - that is exactly what I was getting at. If I were picking up a pen that costs that much, and I didn't know any different, I think I would feel more comfortable paying that for it if it wrote well and didn't feel like a cheap ballpoint.....
