Yesterday I did my first re-finish of a pen that I cannot disassemble.

It is a 7mm Euro hat I turned a bout 3 years ago. My officemate "experimented on it and applied pure Tung oil and handled it before the oil cured. It looked like a zombie when I saw it so I volunteered to re-finish it for him (can't have that pen finish with my name attached to it [}:)])

Anyway, after trying to disaseemble for 30 minutes, I gave up...I guess I CA glued the components while assembling this pen.

Anyway this one have the finial that holds the clip screwed and that part I can remove. In short I only managed to remove the finial, clip, and refill.

I mounted the lower barrel between centers using a dead center and live center. It still have the nib and tranny on it. Applied tape on the nib and sanded. Sanding uncured Tung Oil is a B#*TCH!

Anyway after a few clogged and loaded sandpaper, and few times re-applying the tape, I applied CA and finished it. same was done with the upper barrel.

Now the pen is as good as new...and the officemate ordered 2 more pens as I handed him the re-finished pen :D[8D].

You got an order, Dario??? That's great! And it's about time. [;)]

Oh, and thanks for the tip. You nevere know when you might need just this sort of thing.[8D]

Dario,
Next time, instead of sanding, you might try a file. They're a bit easier to clean (soak in Acetone or thinner).

BTW, nice subtle gloat!

Not meant as a gloat at all...more like, you won't know when you get "rewarded" for trying to help. [;)]

Jim, No problem...I have lots of sandpaper. I think I have 2 boxes full. Each box is approximately 9" x 9" x 12. Not sure where they came from. Didn't realize I have that much until I rounded them all and put them together. Almost like loose change under the couch [:D][}:)]
