I don't see a problem here. If these pen kits were sellers, the prices would not be slashed like that. Also, the hard part of pen turning is the finishing. If someone is not experienced and buys the kit, it would most probably not come out like almost all pens posted here. I would not even give these kits or the competition of them a second thought.

I think you could buy one to show to people if they bring it up(as an example of the poor quality of an obviously mass-produced template-style pen). You get what you pay for.[}:)]

You can show off how poor the finish is(if there is one) in comparison to your own pens. You probally already offer your pen(s) in many other woods than those being sold here(Walnut or Maple). And even with those same woods you could offer burls or spalting. You could just avoid the issue altogether and make different styles of pen not being offered here. But really I think showing them the difference in quality and attention to detail is the best way to go. The broader selection would be just another plus.

The wood they use is boring. If you sell plain boring wood pens, then worry. I think that a good portion of the art of penmaking is in selecting the right piece of wood.

Woodworkers Supply buys hardware from us as well as the brass darkener. Based on the prices they have, they are discontinuing the product line shown. This is usually how they clear out inventory before they drop it all together.

Yeah..... Green is boring too! [:D][:p][;)] Sorry, couldn't resist!

Scott,
You had better send that green stuff to me to ripen, here in Utah it would ripen alot faster.[8D]
