There was an earlier thread regarding pen cases. More specifically, do they help or discourage sales? Personally I think that they help to seal the deal. What can be more appropriate than to offer a custom made pen case to go along with a handmade pen. Anyhoot, here's some different styles that I make and offer to my customers. Let me know if you have a favourite or two.

Detail pic of basket weave case has been added on posting #15 of this thread.

Peter,

Those look great.

I would like a closer look at the one that looks like a basket weeve (lower center). Is it carved or intarsa?

I also like the hinged cover, with the pen rest cut in top.

How about sharing the dimentions and plans?

Great work.

Those are some great looking boxes and pens. It looks like more work in the boxes then the pens. I thought about making boxes but what a lot of work.

Hi Tim,

here's a link to one of the easy to make pen cases (hinged cover w/ pen rest cut on top).

I will post additional pictures of the basket weave pen case since it seems to have appeal with members. I will answer any question(s) regarding dimensions. As with all my flat work, I don't use plans since it's all in my little 'noggin'. I just 'create' what I think will be an appealing design. Some ideas pan out and others don't.

I do it more for the love and the passion for making unique cases. Some styles are indeed a lot a work and it's almost impossible to recoup your material & labour when selling to customers. As most members here have already found out, it's cheaper to buy ready made wood pen cases from our pen re$eller$.

Basket weave case

Here's an additional pic of the basket weave pen case. The weave pattern was "routed" as part of the manufacturing process in a garage door factory. It is a cedar panel that in a former life was a garage door panel insert. Someone threw it away and I saved it since it has an interesting pattern. I've been a 'recycler' before recycling became 'trendy'.

Dimensions: 7"x2.5"x1.25"

Great looking set of cases Peter..especially that basket weave design. I totally agree a case make a pen special. I have several cases that match the pen inside. Heck, these are only some of them in the attached photo. Any pens I sell at a show over $100 in value and that don't have a special case, the customer gets a carbara case free.

Jeff, those are all one-of-kind treasures. Heck, I would buy one of your cases just so that you would include a pen in the 'deal'. Thanks for sharing.:)

Hi Peter; I wasn't certain if you were asking to see pen boxes made by anyone or if you were just interested in showing yours. Not wanting to hijack your thread I hung back somewhat.

This is a very simple one I make and sell for $20.00, not to make any money on them but as an added value item to sell a pen.

This is the only pic I have. I gave the pen and the box to my swap partner. Cherry bottom, walnut ends, and an oak top. These boxes are a good way to use up some scraps.

Mack, that is another winner. Members are always welcome to jump on my 'wagon'. It's never a 'high-jack' when the work is that good. Love that magnet idea of yours.
