Hello everyone!! Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is CJ Cochrane and I am the Owner of CMK Woodworking. I live in Northern Wisconsin in a small town called Crandon, about two hours north of Green Bay.

I make laminated pen blanks in my shop unlike any you have probably seen before. I have my own website and the address is: www.cmkwood.com.

I have been involved with woodworking for nearly 20 years, mostly building custom furniture such as End Tables, Entertainment Centers, Gun Cabinets, Bedroom Dressers. About two or three years ago, I started to turn pens, and I saw a need on the market for interesting and Top Quality Blanks for pen making as I could not find any. So I started making my own laminated blanks and selling them on Ebay. I shortly found out that others were looking for the same thing!! Without getting too long winded, I invite you to check out my blanks on Ebay, if you do a search for "laminated pen blanks" , you will be sure to find me. The blanks I make are top quality and nothing like you have seen before. Look forward to hearing from you all, and happy turning!! Thanks, CJ

Hi CJ,
Welcome to the site. We would love to see your pens and what you have made. Take some time to learn in the library and read some of the policies at IAP. There is a lot of talent within this site, assume nothing and get to know the members here.

Hi CJ and welcome. I was going to mention IAP the next time I bought from you. I have bought from CJ a couple tmes and they are top of the line. If I get a chance I will take some pictures and post them.

Welcome CJ, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/librar...en_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.
Have a look at the series of videos ed4copies has just posted showing how to complete a pen from drill to finish.

Welcome to IAP --it's a great site. Glad to hear from someone from way up north -- I'm up on Lake Superior (Ashland). Took a quick look at your website and looks like you make some cool stuff. I'll have to spend some time looking it over. I've been penmaking since 1998 although I don't make as many pens as I used to I still enjoy it. Not sure I have enough patience for segmenting but I hope to start casting some blanks. I've bought all the equipment and supplies -- I just need to DO IT!!!

Welcome from Pennsylvania! Your blanks look very interesting! Hope to see some turned soon!

Thanks much for the compliments, greatly appreciated!!! I am still trying to figure out the IAP website for replys and posting pictures :) Hope I am doing this right???

I looked at those segmented blanks on that website. They look great. Problem is... I kept throwing money at the screen and nothing was happening.
