I drove by a house that recently cut down a pecan tree. They still have several logs on the ground. Not sure if the wood is nice would it be worth my time to go and ask for a few of these logs.

Get it and let it spalt for a few months before cutting. [^]

Pecan is great wood anytime, but spalted, it is spectacular!

Ok dumb question what is spalted and how do you do that.
I will go by tomorrow and as them for a couple of pieces they look big. They must have hauled off some of it already but I passed by there today and alot of it is still there.

Make sure to seal the ends asap. The two fruit trees I got logs from awhile ago even with ends sealed split.

Make sure to get it off the ground quick and try to get the bark off.
