Alan,

No matter what happens...DO NOT (NEVER) sign on the page the email opens for you. If you do, they will harvest your username and password info.

Spam/scammers looking for your account info. Don't open them. Either delete them or report them to PayPal. If you ever have a question concerning your PayPal account, or any other account for that matter, always go to the home site yourself and log in.

Never, never click a link to paypal except (possibly) when buying from a trusted merchant. Even then, make sure the url ends in "paypal.com" before proceeding.

If you ever get an email that is the least bit suspicious, it is undoubtedly phishing. Forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they'll investigate. If you think you might have been snared, change your password immediately.

The last thing you want to do is give a stranger access to your bank account.

Regards, and happy buying,
Eric

Yup, gotta be careful. I once had my Paypal account hacked and they got $1400 from me. I discovered this as I was at a motorcycle rally in Austin Texas and was trying to use my debit card to get gas.... I called my bank because the card was declined (Just got paid) and they went down the list of transactions and I stopped them at the Paypal withdrawl that I DIDN'T make.....[:0]
I was able to find a phone number for Paypal and called them. They froze the account right away and investigated.(still at the rally on my cell phone....)
It took about three weeks to get the $1400 back (Paypal was GREAT!!) and then I had to fight with the bank to get the overdrafts reversed...[:(!] Got a new bank after that fight.

You know Bob, if you'd just have kept a bigger balance in your bank account, the overdrafts wouldn't have happened.

Sorry...couldn't resist!

Hey Jim,
My bills were paid....[:p] but two weeks til the next payday was a long time to go. I found this out on the weekend between pay days..... Out of town....[B)] Bank was in the middle of changing from a Credit Union to a regular Bank and had their heads so far up... Well you get the picture[}:)]
Maybe next time I will ask you for a grant....[:D] Grants don't ahve to be paid back right??

Actually Bob, had you kept more money in your account, the bad guys probably would would have run up a bigger bill, and you still would have had the overdrafts!

I'm glad everything turned out OK for you in the end.

Unfortunately, that's common with identity theft. Most institutions will refund your money but they don't have to refund overdraft fees and everything of that sort. Something you don't find out until it happens to you...or your wife.

I don't use paypal. I had a credit card number get out from my paypal account and cost me several hundred dollars. I can't say that I trust them at all.
